2 June – or, as we say, Happy International Sex Workers’ Day. Today, we at Escort Dresden simply want to say thank you. Thank you to all the wonderful escort ladies and escort boys, webcam girls and boys, call girls, callboys, adult performers and, yes, all the three-times-gendered superheroes out there too. Thank you for being here. You are wonderful, valuable and important, and we could not imagine the world without you. But did you know how the day began? Its origins lie in France in 1975. More than 100 sex workers occupied a church to protest against criminalisation and inhumane working conditions in the sex industry. For eight days. Since then, 2 June has stood for courage, gratitude and solidarity around the world. So here is our little challenge for you: think of your favourite sex worker with a smile today and carry that good feeling with you throughout the day.

The origins of Sex Workers' Day lie in France. In the 1970s, sex work there was prohibited in the strictest terms and punished with severe penalties. As a result, all sex workers were forced to work as discreetly as possible (and demand remained high despite the ban), which in turn made them easy prey for brutal crimes. On 2 June 1975, more than 100 female sex workers gathered in Lyon and occupied Saint-Nizier Church to draw attention to their situation and protest against it. The police did not clear the church until eight days later. That protest, and the date 2 June, went down in history as International Sex Workers' Day.
